State Senate Candidate Expands Team to Better Connect with District 32 Constituents

Indianapolis, IN – (May 21, 2020) The Believe IN Belinda campaign to elect Belinda Drake to Indiana State Senate District 32 today announced the addition of Christian Omoruyi as Deputy Political Director. He will expand the campaign’s outreach especially to communities and organizations advocating for good governance, voting rights, and engaging younger voters. The campaign will continue to grow Team Drake’s people-powered organization as part of planning for victory in November.

Christian is a freshman who attends American University in Washington, D.C., where he is a distinguished Global Scholar majoring in International Studies and minoring in Spanish. As a foreign policy intern at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C. and an ongoing research intern at Stand Up Republic, a pro-democracy advocacy organization, he has interacted with and befriended elected officials, executive branch officials, Nobel laureates, and dignitaries from around the world. Amid a festering gun violence epidemic and a looming climate catastrophe, Christian has been compelled to engage in citizen lobbying and activism for gun safety and climate action, organizing walkouts and protests for universal background check legislation at the Indiana Statehouse and mobilizing fellow high school and college students at strikes to call for aggressive action to counteract the destructive impacts of climate change.

As someone who recognizes the extraordinary stakes of the November election and the need to replace retrogressive leadership at the federal and state levels with everyday people from underrepresented communities who reflect the pluralistic diversity foundational to America’s enduring creed, I’m beyond excited to be a part of Belinda’s groundbreaking campaign for State Senate” said Omoruyi on his joining the Believe IN Belinda campaign.

As Deputy Political Director, Omoruyi will be responsible for developing relationships with key allies in the independent and coordinated electoral landscape to secure support for Belinda’s election. This will include the development of innovative voter contact plans to build long-term capacity, fundraising, and communication strategies that move forward Belinda’s platform and candidacy.

“I’m excited to bring Christian onboard the Believe IN Belinda team” State Senate candidate Drake said. “His exemplary leadership and ongoing commitment to American democracy will help build our community-based partnerships and create a bridge to other grassroots organizations so that we can create a better world.”
